"We Are In The Business Of Improving Human Life Affected By Alcoholism And Other Drug Addictions" because recovery and growth require care & time

Assesment Evaluation Services

Clients will be evaluated by personnel with the training and expertise to conduct a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment. The intake assessment is conducted by an experienced clinical staff member because assessment dictates subsequent placement and treatment planning decisions. If it is necessary for junior staff to conduct assessments, senior staff will be available for supervision and consultation. Using criteria from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders -IV (DSM-IV) criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders and the ASAM/PCPC criteria for placement decisions are use to determine the appropriate level of care.

Today, in the alcohol and other drug abuse treatment (AOD) field, there is a movement toward using individualized, targeted treatment models to ensure access to quality treatment and conserve healthcare resources. Now clinicians must focus on matching patients to individually tailored treatment, rather than on forcing clients into in established treatment regimen. The success of clinically driven treatment depends on recognition of the initializing and maintaining processes underlying maladaptive decision making.

Assessment can be a bridge between a person’s decisions to utilize substance abuse treatment services and the change processes resulting in a life with no substance use.

The comprehensive assessment will include the following domains:

  • Acute intoxication and/or withdrawal potential.
  • Biomedical conditions and complications.
  • Emotional/behavioral conditions and complications.
  • Treatment acceptance/resistance.
  • Relapse/continued use potential and
  • Recovery / living environment

A comprehensive assessment of each of these clinical domains, and perhaps others as dictated by clinical need, is required in order to make appropriate placement decisions, to develop individualized treatment plans, and to determine eligibility for continued stay. The purpose of this comprehensive assessment framework is to ensure that each individual seeking alcohol and drug treatment services from SEPCADD receives the appropriate clinical services in the least restrictive environment possible.

The confidential assessment results and recommendations are reviewed with the client.

Who should have an assessment?

Anyone who thinks they may have an alcohol or other drug problem. An assessment is Not a drug test. It is a confidential meeting with a counselor to discuss you individual situation.

Case Management

SEPCADD's Case Management program uses a recovery model that provides focused support, accountability and coordination of services to individuals and families in the achievement of their long-term recovery goals.

Chemical dependency is a chronic, progressive disease, which negatively impacts the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of an individual's life. Like any other chronic illness, there is always the risk of relapse.

As part of SEPCADD’s Case Management program seeks to minimize the risk of relapse and identify it in the early stages, by keeping clients engaged in the recovery process.

Education

SEPCADD offers numerous education programs on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs through our speaker’s bureau.

Intervention Services

The Family Intervention Program

Most of us know someone who has a problem with alcohol or other drugs. You may care very much about that person. Maybe you’ve even thought about trying to help but obstacles may have gotten in the way or something is holding you back. Or you think “time will make it better” or “it will go away on its own”. Maybe you blame yourself. Or maybe you think that people have to “hit bottom”, where their problems are so overwhelming that they will be forced to seek help on their own.

While it’s true that you cannot force a person with a problem to get the help that they need, you can empower them to accept the help. People who are dependent on alcohol or other drugs can be very resistant and reluctant to look at their problem. Their use may be causing significant problems with family relationships, friends even financial and emotional problems.

They maybe on a merry go round and they do not know how to get off.

They need your love and your help.

How can you help?

The answer is a process called Intervention. Getting someone help who doesn’t want help is what intervention is all about. That’s not always easy. It takes a lot of preparation and professional guidance.

During the intervention process, participants explore what will work and what will be effective in a planned, organized fashion. An educational format is provided for family members/significant others to look at their own response and sort through what is real and what is not real.

SEPCADD has nationally certified professional Interventionists and counselors to guide you through the process.

SEPCADD is dedicated to serving the needs of community, and all those who suffer from the debilitating effects of the disease of alcoholism and/or drug addiction regardless of their ability to pay. A scholarship fund will be set up to subsidize families unable to pay for the above services.

SEPCADD is one of the most vitally needed alcohol and other drug prevention, intervention and advocacy agencies in the region.
